Mary Fran Anderson's first blog post


Dear Fellow Teachers of the visually impaired and orientation and mobility specialists. I know many of you but for those who don’t know me my name is Mary Fran Anderson and I am a teacher of the visually impaired working as the BCVI  assistive technology resource for the visually impaired.
I have worked many years as a teacher of the visually impaired and have developed an interest in assistive technology. I have seen it change over the years and I am so excited about how it just keeps getting better and better and more portable! I know that there are many of you in the state that are very knowledgeable about assistive technology. I would hope that we could work together to share resources. Hopefully we can create an interactive blog for ideas and suggestions.
My first project has been to help distribute the necessary software access for the teachers and students who will be involved in OAKS testing. I hope you have received my emails with instructions for downloading and accessing JAWS 12.0 and Duxbury if needed.
As I am learning more about what’s required for OAKS testing, including software and hardware, I have come across a few ideas and suggestions that may be of assistance when facilitating testing. They are as follows:
